CONSTRUCTION WORK WELL UNDER WAY AT BOTH SITES
The prolonged spell of good weather has enabled the main contractor, Cheesmur of Lewes, to push ahead with the preparation of both the Aquarium and Workshop sites prior to the erection of the buildings. Construction of the new undercroft walls at the Aquarium station had, by April 10th, almost reached ground floor level. Part of the platform and gantry has had to be removed to allow this work to progress but will be reinstated when the new building is in place.
Most of the Workshop site at Banjo Groyne has been levelled and the framework for the inspection pit is now in place waiting for the shuttering to be fixed prior to concreting. The tracks inside the shed are to be laid on concrete plinths to allow for accurate levelling and alignment before the concrete slab is cast around them. When finished the rails will look very much like those in a typical tram depot.
