Railway closes for the winter

The 2020 season fizzled out because of the rain and wind on the 31st October when the railway’s management decided it was too wet to carry passengers. However, three VERA members, Nick Owen, Les Kenward and Mick Mills decided to run a ‘last train’ as we do each year. Battling the wind and rain the trio ran an empty train using cars 6 and 10 from Aquarium to Black Rock and back to Halfway where the train was stabled in the ‘tunnel’ between the north and south sheds. The picture taken by Les shows Nick and Mick before the final run to Black Rock. Well done to them for keeping the Volk’s traditions alive. The railway is now closed but will reopen at Easter 2021.
